Workplace Issues

Electric cooperatives own more than forty percent of America's distribution infrastructure, nearly 2.5 million miles of line covering three quarters of the nation's landmass. That system is operated, maintained, and upgraded by the 65,000 employees of NRECA's member co-ops. This section is dedicated to issues that effect safety, labor and daily operational issues for that workforce.

In comments filed on Minimum Training Requirements for Entry-Level Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), NRECA recomends that the FMCSA proposed rule should check skills, not paper, check skills relevant to driving circumstances ( utility bucket truck vs. cross-country eighteen-wheeler) and maintain effective CDL training for utility drivers by dropping the accreditation requirement since many utilities conduct their own training.
