NRECA applauds the work of Sens. Johnson and Chambliss for their bipartisan effort to ensure that the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Electric Loan Program maintains the FY 2010 spending level of $6.5 billion and can continue to make loans for intermediate and peaking natural gas plants, as well as environmental upgrades to existing power plants. Maintaining the RUS Electric Loan Program will not only help keep electric prices down for consumers, but this program is projected to return $50 million to the federal government. NRECA would like to encourage all Senators to sign the RUS letter.

The letter from Johnson and Chambliss follows on the heels of a similar effort in the House of Representatives. See Related Links box.
