We are located at 4301 Wilson Boulevard in beautiful and convenient Arlington (Ballston), VA.

Founded in 1942, NRECA was organized to overcome World War II shortages of electric construction materials, to provide insurance coverage for newly founded rural electric cooperatives, and to mitigate wholesale power problems. Since those early days, NRECA has been an advocate for consumer-owned cooperatives on energy, operational, and political issues as well as community and economic development.

NRECA supports a network of over 900 consumer-owned electric cooperatives serving more than 40 million people. Electric cooperatives operate in over 80% of the counties in the United States.

NRECA’s membership includes other organizations formed by these local utilities: generation and transmission cooperatives for power supply, statewide and regional trade and service associations, supply and manufacturing cooperatives, data processing cooperatives, and employee credit unions.

The association provides leadership and member assistance through:

  • Representation before the U.S. Congress and agencies of the executive branch
  • Representation in legal and regulatory proceedings affecting electric service and the environment
  • Employee benefits and financial services for cooperatives employees
  • Homestead Mutual Funds
  • RE Magazine and Electric Co-op TODAY
  • Education and training programs for cooperative directors, managers, and employees
  • Energy and environmental research and technology transfer programs
  • Technical advice and management assistance in developing countries throughout the world
  • Association Meetings
  • International Programs

At NRECA, we're developing new ways for electric cooperatives to think, interact, manage their cooperatives and govern their member-owned businesses. But first and foremost, we're about people.
