Interships
NRECA's intern programs are designed to provide the kind of valuable, real-world experience that accelerates preparation for a professional career. NRECA joins with local colleges and universities to provide work experience that offers students the opportunity to apply classroom theory to practice in the workplace.
A student employment assignment at NRECA gives you real-world experience that offers you a competitive edge when you enter the workforce. Student employment assignments provide you the opportunity to become familiar with NRECA's organization, work style and corporate culture.
Internship programs are an important recruiting channel for NRECA because they help management identify high-potential prospective employees. Participating students are often considered for regular employment. Our philosophy is recruit once, hire twice.
As an NRECA intern, you will be assigned to a paid position related to your major or career goals.
As an intern, you will gain professional work experience. Most interns work at NRECA during summers between academic sessions. NRECA will also work with students and schools that do not have formal programs to arrange internships for six-to-seven-month work periods.
Eligibility
NRECA employs both undergraduate and graduate students in the internship program. You can be considered for participation if you are a full-time student at any four-year accredited U.S. college or university. Multiple assignments might be available. You are eligible for employment after completing your freshman year; however, the largest population of students are junior level and above.
Part-time positions, not to exceed 20 hours per week, might be available if you are attending a school near NRECA.
As a candidate under consideration for a internship assignment, you will need to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement (grade point average). You should have relevant work or research experience and be able to demonstrate strong leadership, communication and teamwork skills. You will also need to earn a high evaluation during the interview process.
Position Availability
The main hiring seasons follow the academic school calendar (fall, spring and summer), but NRECA continuously seeks top students to employ as interns throughout the year.
Return Assignments
You will be eligible for a return NRECA assignment if your job and school performance are satisfactory and a business need exists. Information on the procedure for return assignments will be provided to you by your manager or staffing representative prior to your exit interview.
