ANAHEIM, CALIF., February 24, 2008 – More than 10,000 key staff and locally elected directors from the nation’s electric cooperative convene today at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., to set the agenda for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

On Monday, Feb. 25, NRECA presents Rep. Earl Pomeroy from North Dakota and Sen. Craig Thomas from Wyoming (posthumously) Distinguished Service Awards. In addition, NRECA CEO Glenn English delivers his “Report to the Membership” and Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, chair of the American Red Cross, delivers the keynote address.

On Tuesday, Feb. 26, former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich addresses the Cooperative Finance Corporation and on Wednesday, Feb. 27, Cokie Roberts, news analyst for ABC and National Public Radio, offers the keynote address at the closing session.

Below is an outline of the program. General Sessions are held at the Anaheim Convention Center. Newsroom facilities will be staffed and available from Noon on Sunday, Feb. 24 to Noon on Feb. 27, on the second level of the convention center in room 213 CD.

NRECA represents the nation's electric cooperative utilities, which serve more than 40 million people in 47 states. More than 10,000 people are expected at the association’s Annual Meeting during which they will set NRECA's legislative and organizational agenda for 2008. In addition to considering and acting upon policy resolutions, delegates receive reports from NRECA officials, hear addresses by key public figures, and attend panel sessions on major issues affecting electric cooperatives and their consumer-owners.
