ARLINGTON, VA, JUNE 23, 2010 – The 2010 ranking by IDG’s Computerworld marks the seventh year in a row NRECA’s IT department has been recognized in Computerworld’s Best Places to Work in IT. NRECA ranked 78th.

Of special note was NRECA's focus on career development, where the association came in at number 10. The magazine cited the IT department’s mentoring program and the association's educational assistance program, which enables employees to advance their careers through industry certifications and advanced degrees.

The high ranking for career development is good news: in a survey by Computerworld of 38,000 IT workers, 88 percent rated "having access to training and opportunities that further my skills" as the most important thing about their jobs.

The magazine also highlighted NRECA's recognition program: the Superior Achievement Award — a special recognition from the association's CEO that includes a plaque and cash award — and the Excellence Awards.

The Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT) list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals compiled by IDG’s Computerworld, the “Voice of IT Management.” The lists are compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.

NRECA is the national service organization for more than 900 rural electric utilities that provide electricity to approximately 42 million consumers in 47 states and sell approximately twelve percent of all electric energy sold in the United States. Most NRECA members are consumer-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperatives.
