NRECA thanks Rep. David McKinley and the 85 Members who signed bipartisan letters to members of the Conference Committee for the Transportation Bill, urging them to include language that uses the existing municipal solid waste program as the basis for regulating coal combustion residuals. By keeping coal ash regulated as nonhazardous, it can be employed for many beneficial uses, including as an affordable alternative to Portland cement in the manufacturing of concrete for highway construction. This legislation has already passed the House of Representatives twice, both times with bipartisan support. NRECA urges Members of the Transportation Conference Committee to include the coal ash language in the conference report.
